Time for a Reboot
by admin on Jun.25, 2010, under Uncategorized
This bog has been live for a year or so but as it has no theme or topic it is officially rubbish! To try and make things better I have decided it is now time for something completely different. It is going to be my through on the latest tech story that catches my eye. Come back regularly and tell me I’m wrong and if you can prove it I might even listen. Over the coming weeks and months I plan change the look and style of the blog as well as write some content that would be worth reading unlike everything before this point.
Election 2010
by admin on May.07, 2010, under Rant

Well I work up this morning expecting to have it all explained and make sence. Instead I found that the conservatives have more seats than labour but some how Gordon Brown is still the PM. I though the one with the most won. Is it just me who doesn’t understand the reasoning behind this or can Labour not even lose properly? The question now is what happens next. Does Gordon work with the other parties to try and get a majority with a coalition? Does David team up with the Liberal Democrats to get a majority? If Conservative and Liberal join forces do we end up with a green party? Can heat make a jedwood like name up for the joint leaders? CamLeg, Clegeron, Broleg. Do they settle it with a fight? Why do I have more questions now than when it all started. I’m sure it will all work out over the coming weeks and months but is this the best system we can come up with. Only time will tell but until then there is nothing to do but watch.

Xbox Live 1 Vs 100
by admin on Jul.21, 2009, under Gaming
1 Vs 100 started 2 few weeks ago in the UK but not having a gold membership I had not had the chance to try it. This all changed last weekend when Microsoft gave everyone the chance to join in for 1 weekend only. On Friday night I sat down and thought I would give it a try. I Downloaded the game and then started it up. Sitting relaxing into the game and learning how to play it all looked and played very well. Then my other half walked into the room. Expecting the normal response of can we put Big Brother on I was surprised when she started answering questions and asking what I was doing. I explained that there were 70000 other people all doing the same thing and that If your lucky you can get to be part of the 100 or even the 1 and play for prizes. About a hour later the show was over and we had enjoyed our time playing the game together. I never did get to be part of the 100 but that didn’t seam to matter as we still had fun.
The only problem we had was getting kicked out of the game at random times due to a loss of connection. Although this was annoying it was not the end of the world and it only takes a short time to get back into the game. I expect this will improve as the Beta continues over the coming weeks.
Then Saturday night came round and the question was asked “we playing 1 Vs 100 tonight”. I though this is great as I prefer the interactive entertainment of games to the normal TV programs we watch in our home. Again a great time was had this time including the little one as well who although he didn’t answer many questions found it fun to play along.
After the game we were talking about playing next week and I realised Microsoft had won. I would have to upgrade to a Gold subscription to play again the next week. This has now been done and I’m already looking forward to more fun and games next week. Hopefully they will have fixed the connection problems (It’s only a Beta) so I don’t get kicked out of the game half way through and have to login again but we will see.
All in all a very good start from Microsoft and the Xbox Live team. I look forward to seeing how far they will push the prime time channel in the coming months and years.
DNS Servers and GoDaddy.com
by admin on Jul.15, 2009, under Uncategorized

I have been trying for a few days to get my domain registered with 1and1 to work with my hosting from GoDaddy. The problem was I could not get it to work no matter what I did. I assumed for 3 days it might just be a propagation problem so left it alone like a good boy to give it some time. On the 4th day though I decided enough was enough and tried the universal tech support system or Google as it’s known. A quick search and I find a helpful post from some one who had the same problem and was thoughtful enough to post there experience. to Cut a long story short GoDaddy give you the wrong DNS name they give you MNS01.SECURESERVER.NET and MNS02.SECURESERVER.NET, when it should read NS01.SECURESERVER.NET and NS02.SECURESERVER.NET. I have change these settings and now I am waiting again to see if this fixes it. This is just a short post to say thanks to Elisabeth Hendrickson @ testobsessed.com. Mafia Wars on Facebook
by admin on Apr.27, 2009, under Uncategorized

I have avoided the call of Facebook games for such a long time I thought I would never get dragged in. That was until that fateful day that I was invited into Mafia Wars. The Idea is simple, Do jobs get experience and money and build up your empire. To do jobs you use energy which you only have so much of. When the energy is gone you have to wait for it to recharge before you can do any more jobs. Same with the money and the stamina. My experience is after the jump and believe me it’s not easy to admit that you really are this sad. (continue reading…)

It’s that time of the week again and time for CO-OP episode 2. My Lunch can’t come soon enough so I can watch. This week they have coverage of Resident Evil 5 and Halo Wars along with the usual high jinks and humour we have come to expect. I will comment on this episode one I have watched it.
BlackBerry Curve 8900
by admin on Mar.13, 2009, under BlackBerry

I have had this phone for a little over a month now and I have to say that I’m loving it. Before I get into the phone though a little background on my mobile history and why I chose this phone. I have used mobiles for 12 years starting with a brick of a Motorola, During this time I have found that I do not like touch screen phones in general and prefer a button I can press to do what I need to do. I had a Motorola A1000 a few years ago on 3 and although I liked the look of the phone, I soon found that that in the real world I had to use 2 hands to do everything with this phone. I then went back to normal style phones using the Sony Ericsson K750i, a W810 and finally a W910i, I had no problems with any of these phones and with Opera mobile installed on the W910i I found it did most of what I wanted although not always with the ease and style I would like. I always felt that I wanted a smart phone with a bigger screen but not one that would bring me back to the 2 handed operation or a slower UI. I started looking at new phones about a year ago with the iPhone being a front runner until I used a friends and found the 2 handed problem was back and that texting on a touch screen was not for me. I the waited for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 thinking this could be the phone for me and when release the reviews disappointed me hugely having all the same problems as other windows mobile phones before it, It had slow UI and buggy as hell, but it looked so good I almost got one any way. I then saw the 8900 when a friend at work got one. This made me look at BlackBerry for the first time.
Liking the BlackBerry I decided to look at the different options available. I like the size of the 8900 but it did not have 3G which disappoint me. I looked at the Bold 9000 which has the 3G is a bit bigger but the camera was only 2MP instead of the 3.2 Mp on the Curve. I also found a storm and had a good try of that as well with the clicking tough screen. I quickly discounted the Storm due to the touch screen and then discounted the bold due to the camera not being as good and wanting the best I can get for Twitpic and Blog Updates. This left me with just the 8900 and no 3G. I decided to go with this and the following is my experience of using it in my day to day life.
Having never used a BlackBerry before this and never thinking I would want one I now do not know why I would ever want anything else. The phone works brilliantly as a phone but also allows you to stay in touch with people in so many ways. I can use SMS, MMS, Email, BlackBerry Messenger, MSN, and others I don’t use, but it’s always nice to have to option. This has meant I now keep far more in touch with people that I normally would and if people email me I can reply with a few seconds. This helps with the problem of having 20 emails to go through when I get back to my email as I can clear them all when they are received. I have also found I now update my Twitter feed and Facebook status on a much more regular basis so people can always find out what I’m up to (I think my mum sometimes looks at it). The final major thing I have found is using a program called Viigo for RSS feeds. I like many others can not access web sites that interest me due to the Proxy server blocking games. No longer do I miss the latest gaming new as everything is updated automatically to my phone. So in short I am very happy with my new phone. The lack of 3G doesn’t cause me any problems and even my other half who usually has no interest in tech wants one. I will update more as I find new Apps to make my BlackBerry do even more in the future so keep checking back.
CO OP – Episode 1
by admin on Mar.12, 2009, under Gaming
This is the first episode of season 1 of the CO OP show. This show is made by some very talented people who every week produce a video game show that the major networks can only dream of. They all used to work for 1UP producing the 1UP Show but when they got made redundant they didn’t just hide or crawl under a rock they stuck together and formed there own company called Area 5. 6 guys who love what they do and do what they love and it shows. They managed to keep going and made 4 episodes using donations from the community, begging borrowing but as far as I know not stealing. They have now signed a deal with Revision3 a internet TV station (that I had never heard of but am now a member of) and I now hope that they can keep making there own brand of gaming show and who knows one day if a major network needs a team to produce a show for them they may well just get the call. I know they would be my first choice. Congratulations guys and I hope that if I ever find my self in your position I have the Balls and the commitment to follow my dreams as well. You inspire me and if there are more people in the world like you it can only make it a better place.
Acer Mail not opening and/or not working at all
by admin on Mar.12, 2009, under I'm Learning

Another Acer Problem I’m working though. Since I updated the Firefox client to V3 I have had problems opening the email on the AA1. I have been working though how to fix these problems and I’m getting close again with the help of the Aspire One Forum. I will update further when I get to the bottom of it and also look into hosting the files and instructions if I can get permission.
